Applications
Enerpac has gained unique expertise in delivering hydraulic solutions for the controlled movement and positioning of structures.
Removing the Spans of the old Bay Bridge in Record Time
The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge spans San Francisco Bay in California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 270,000 vehicles a day on its two decks, and has one of the longest spans in the United States.

Leak Free Connections on Critical Joints with Hydraulic Tensioners
The maintenance teams at the Wallumbilla Gas Treatment Facility were assembling several gas processing and treatment pipelines. Each flange bolt required a precise amount of tension in order to ensure a leak free connection.

Slew Bearing Replacement on a Ship Loader
Replacing the slew bearing on the 40 year old (grain) ship loader required lifting the upper structure 300 mm to provide adequate clearance during replacement. Keeping the boom connected made it challenging to maintain the balance of the ship loader during the lift. Maintaining the center of gravity of the ship loader throughout the lift was critical.

Safely Erecting a Bridge Over Water with a Hydraulic Driven Launching Nose
The KiwiRail project by Downer, completed this year, will permanently improve the country’s main trunk rail network and allow more freight to be carried over strongly refurbished structures to busy destinations including ports and intermodal facilities.

Box Girder Launching System on the I-95 Whittier Bridge
Constructed in 1951, the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge is currently in the process of being replaced by a new bridge compliant with current safety standards. The high traffic bridge connects Newburyport and Amesbury via I-95 over the Merrimack River. Walsh Construction is employing a rail mounted gantry crane system to simplify the placement of the steel bridge girders and precast deck to create the approach spans. Two 6 foot tall, 960 foot long temporary support steel box girders will be launched across temporary piers to create a rail system for the gantry crane to operate on during the approach span construction. The steel box girder arrangement will be moved after the placement of each approach span. It’s critical that the two 550 ton temporary steel support box girders move in unison in order to prevent binding or misalignment of the gantry crane operating on top of the rail system.

Transformer Lift and Weigh Saves Freight Cost
Machinery Movers needed to know the exact weight of a transformer before it was shipped from New Zealand to India. A load in excess of the port’s 110 ton maximum lifting capacity would require a special ship to be brought in which would incur significant freight costs.

Hydraulic Drive System for Las Vegas Observation Wheel
Erecting the Las Vegas High Roller Observation Wheel included installing the 28 passenger cabins. To ensure accurate and safe installation, a hydraulic drive system was needed to turn the wheel for correct positioning and placement. The drive system would also be critical in the overall rotation of the wheel, which would serve as the permanent operating system. Enerpac and Schwager Davis Inc., a specialty contractor, worked together to supply a reliable system solution.

Maintenance on the Neeltje Jans storm surge barrier with Enerpac torque
Maintenance of the hydraulic cylinders in the Neeltje Jans storm surge barrier's sluices that enable controlled opening and closing of the heavy sluice-gates. After being exposed to the elements for many decades, the 85mm bolts on the cylinder heads can only be loosened and tightened in a controlled manner with breakaway torques.
