Container Crane Installed Using Synchronous Lifting System

Customer

Rich Rigging

Location

Port of Tauranga, New Zealand

Challenge

Optimum weight distribution is fundamental to the safety and ongoing reliability of a container crane. Accurately lifting, weighing, and positioning an 800 ton container crane on the rails is critical to achieving ideal weight distribution. Existing methods of lifting port cranes typically involve whole teams of lifting personnel manually coordinating lifts with a standard pump without stroke control or weighing capabilities. Such methods are typically not accurate in lifting and do not provide any input concerning weight distribution.

Solution

Aluminum hydraulic cylinders and an EVO synchronous lifting system were deployed to install the new Liebherr Super Post-Panamax crane. The EVO system’s integrated HMI (Human Machine Interface) provided real-time status updates and a central control position for managing each lifting point. The ability to precisely monitor and control the load from a central point improved the efficiently, time savings, and achieved ideal weight distribution.
