Challenge
Building the cooling tower structure of the Medupi power station required bolting together hundreds of steel joints. Each bolt required the precise application to be torqued, which is both challenging and requires a significant amount of time with manual tools.
Solution
A S3000 hydraulic torque wrench powered by a ZU-Series torque wrench pump fastened the bolts on each joint in less than a half hour. A hydraulic solution provided the means to apply a precise amount of torque to each nut, eliminating re-torque work.
