Applications
Enerpac has gained unique expertise in delivering hydraulic solutions for the controlled movement and positioning of structures.
Power Station Joint Assembly with Hydraulic Torque Wrenches
Building the cooling tower structure of the Medupi power station required bolting together hundreds of steel joints. Each bolt required the precise application to be torqued, which is both challenging and requires a significant amount of time with manual tools.

Undecking an Electric Rope Shovel in a Copper Mine with a Jack-up System
Elko Wire Rope, a privately-owned provider of manufactured rigging products in the mining industry, selected Enerpac’s JS-500 Jack-up System to undeck an electric rope shovel at a copper mine site located in Southwestern USA. The entire upper works of the rope shovel needed to be lifted for an inspection on the bearings and have maintenance repairs performed. The machine weighs approximately 1,500 tons, requiring lifting with significant force and control.

Safe Disposal of Old Gas Cylinders with Hydraulic Punch Set
Before gas cylinders can be disposed of in Australia, they must be completely unusable, to stop people reusing faulty and dangerous cylinders and causing themselves serious harm. The most effective way to do this is to puncture a hole in the cylinder.

Electric Rope Shovel Undecking
Routine maintenance is required on a P&H 4100XPC Electric Rope Shovel after every 30,000 hours of operation. The maintenance activities require the upper section to be lifted off the car body to machine bearing surfaces and inspect and repair structural components. Weighing approximately 1,000 tons, lifting the upper car body requires a significant amount of force and control.

Lifting an Underground Mining Truck to Fix a Flat Tyre
Changing a flat tyre on heavy machinery is one of underground mining’s most hazardous and time-consuming maintenance tasks, often taking up to 12 hours to complete in confined spaces with sloped surfaces.

Lift and Weigh of a Jack-Up Rig Cantilever and Drill Floor
Lamprell has completed the fabrication of a new jack-up drilling rig. Every jack-up rig cantilever and drill floor needs to be accurately weighed after construction. Space restrictions under the cantilever prevented the use of other weighing systems without costly rework to the load structure. Enerpac distributor Al Masaood Trading, based in Dubai, was asked to provide a safe, accurate and compact solution for weighing the jack-up rig cantilever and drill floor.

Versatile Piping Isolation Test Tools and Machining Ensure Integrity in Refinery Upgrade
As part of a scheduled maintenance program, several processing units were planned to be shut down at a major refinery in North America that produces over 100,000 barrels of petroleum per day.

Quickly Removing Hundreds of Corroded Carriage Bolts with a Hydraulic Nut Splitter and Cordless Pump
Hundreds of vineyard line posts needed to be disassembled and removed. Many of the nuts had rusted onto the carriage bolt holding the vineyard trellis arms. Unbolting them was very time consuming, and faster removal methods such as grinding or torches were dangerous and posed fire hazards.

Safely Removing Corroded Nuts with a Hydraulic Nut Cutter
Hiap Seng provides pipe line maintenance services for Shell at their Pulau Bukom oil and petrochemical production facility. Removing corroded or frozen nuts is a common challenge when performing pipe maintenance. A frequent approach for removing corroded nuts included a chisel and hammer, flogging, or gas torch; however these methods often damage the flange face, bolt or gasket and take 15 to 30 minutes per nut.

Repositioning of a Satellite Earth Station Antenna
After 30 years of service as a telecommunications satellite earth station, the wheel and track type antenna had moved 6mm out of its central rotation position due to wear on its pintle post bearing pads. In order to restore the position of the 250 ton antenna, it needed to be lifted and moved laterally back to center.

Box Girder Launching System on the I-95 Whittier Bridge
Constructed in 1951, the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge is currently in the process of being replaced by a new bridge compliant with current safety standards. The high traffic bridge connects Newburyport and Amesbury via I-95 over the Merrimack River. Walsh Construction is employing a rail mounted gantry crane system to simplify the placement of the steel bridge girders and precast deck to create the approach spans. Two 6 foot tall, 960 foot long temporary support steel box girders will be launched across temporary piers to create a rail system for the gantry crane to operate on during the approach span construction. The steel box girder arrangement will be moved after the placement of each approach span. It’s critical that the two 550 ton temporary steel support box girders move in unison in order to prevent binding or misalignment of the gantry crane operating on top of the rail system.
