Electric Rope Shovel Undecking
Routine maintenance is required on a P&H 4100XPC Electric Rope Shovel after every 30,000 hours of operation. The maintenance activities require the upper section to be lifted off the car body to machine bearing surfaces and inspect and repair structural components. Weighing approximately 1,000 tons, lifting the upper car body requires a significant amount of force and control.

Installation of Tidal Turbines on the Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier
The Eastern Scheldt (Oosterscheldekering) is a series of dams and storm surge barriers protecting the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. Part of a renewable energy project included the installation of five tidal turbines on the storm surge barrier. Huisman Equipment was tasked with the construction of steel structure to mount the tidal turbines to the barrier. Installation of the Tidal Power Plant needed to be completed with precision and pace. Changes in the water levels and the tide required the entire installation be complete in a two hour window.

Enerpac Helps Erect Worlds Tallest Observation Wheel in Las Vegas
To help erect the 550-foot tall Las Vegas High Roller observation wheel including installing the massive rim sections that support 28 observation cabins, each 20 feet in diameter, each weighing 25 tons and each accommodating up to 40 people. The rim consisted of 28 different sections each weighing a massive 45 tons. The challenge was to lift, assemble and then rotate the huge rim sections so the next section could be assembled, thus allowing the wheel to take shape.

Container Crane Installed Using Synchronous Lifting System
Optimum weight distribution is fundamental to the safety and ongoing reliability of a container crane. Accurately lifting, weighing, and positioning an 800 ton container crane on the rails is critical to achieving ideal weight distribution. Existing methods of lifting port cranes typically involve whole teams of lifting personnel manually coordinating lifts with a standard pump without stroke control or weighing capabilities. Such methods are typically not accurate in lifting and do not provide any input concerning weight distribution.

Installing Offshore Wind Turbine Base Foundations with a SyncHoist System
A Synchoist load positioning system, from Enerpac Heavy Lifting Technology, has been used by Finnish wind power production company, Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy, for the installation of gravity base foundations at the Tahkoluoto Offshore Wind Farm, Pori, Finland. The Tahkoluoto Wind Farm is the world's first offshore windfarm designed for operation in ice conditions.

Controlled Tightening on Dump Truck Suspension Struts
The maintenance team needed to replace the suspension strut bolts on 777F, 785D, 789D and 793F dump trucks. Due to the confined location of the suspension struts there was limited space for accessing the bolts. Existing methods of using flogging spanners often took several hours to replace the nuts, caused minor injuries to hands and the torque was not accurate.

Installing Pylon Sections of a Cable-Stayed Bridge with a SyncHoist
Gotowski constructed a 200 meter long cable-stayed "University Bridge" to connect two parts of Bydgoszcz separated by the Brda River. The bridge's design requires the erection of two 68 meter tall pylons (towers) to support the bridge deck. Constructed in sections, the pylons weighed 90 to 130 tons and needed to be positioned with precise accuracy.

Lifting a Historic Building for Renovation
Renovation of a historic building in Georgia's capital required the foundation to be repaired after it had sunk into the ground. The 100-year-old building needed to be lifted 3.4 meters onto pylons in order to be renovated.

Removal of Decommissioned London Tube Trains with a Hydraulic Gantry
Nine London Underground 1983 model stock trains were decommissioned and abandoned in the South Harrow sidings in 1998 when the 96 model stock trains were introduced. The poor condition of the 83 train cars made it unsafe to haul out onto the network to a depot. Sonic Rail Services were contracted by the Station Works and Improvement Program (SWIP) of London Underground to remove the carriages from the South Harrow station sidings, with minimal disruption to the network and to undertake the necessary remedial repairs to the track.

Jack and Roll System Pulls the Fort Lyon Bridge into Position
Minimizing the amount of time state highway 266 was shut off to traffic was a primary objective during the reconstruction of the bridge over Fort Lyon Canal. Utilizing an innovative Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) method Kiewit, Jacobs Engineering and the Colorado Department of Transportation developed a plan to build the replacement bridge adjacent to the existing bridge.
